Study Program Facilities

Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering Laboratory Facilities

The Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering Study Program at UI provides a range of laboratories and practicum rooms that support teaching, research, and prototype development in ship engineering and maritime systems, from hydrodynamic model testing and machinery practicum to collaborative ship design studios.

Electric Fishing Boat Laboratory

Electric Fishing Boat Laboratory

This laboratory develops and tests solar-powered electric fishing boat prototypes as part of the department's research into renewable energy applications for maritime transportation. The prototype is trialed directly on the UI campus lake to evaluate electric propulsion performance, energy efficiency, and its operational feasibility as a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fishing vessels.

Ship Model Testing Area (Resistance and Stability)

Ship Model Testing Area (Resistance and Stability)

This ship resistance test simulation pool is used by students to conduct scale-model testing in order to analyze resistance and stability characteristics before they are applied to an actual ship design. Through hands-on experiments, students study the relationship between hull form, speed, and resistance forces that underpin ship hydrodynamics calculations.

Machinery Practicum Room

Machinery Practicum Room

This practicum room is equipped with an engine unit and piping systems for ship machinery practicum activities, including engine performance testing, cooling systems, and control instrumentation. The facility supports practicum courses that give students hands-on exposure to real-scale ship machinery systems.

Capstone Design Room

Capstone Design Room

The Capstone Design Room is where final-year students work collaboratively on ship design capstone projects, equipped with shared discussion tables and 3D printing facilities for producing design prototypes. The room is designed to support the iterative process from concept development and modelling to the final presentation of ship designs.

Computation Zone for Ship Modelling

Computation Zone for Ship Modelling

This computation zone provides computer workstations for ship modelling and simulation activities, such as computer-aided hull modelling and hydrodynamic and structural simulation. The facility is used by students in coursework and final projects that require ship engineering software.
